Ivo Lola Ribar was a Yugoslav partisan fighter during World War II. He was born on January 23, 1916 in a small village near Zagreb, Croatia. At the beginning of the war, he joined the communist party and participated in numerous battles throughout Yugoslavia, showing great bravery and leadership skills. He was appointed commander of the 1st Zagreb Partisan Company and was later promoted to a higher rank. Ribar was killed in action on August 27, 1943, during the Battle of Sutjeska, one of the most important battles of the Yugoslav Partisan resistance. He is considered a national hero in Yugoslavia and his name is often used as a symbol of resistance against fascism. Many streets, schools, and institutions have been named after him in Croatia and other former Yugoslav republics.
